After nearly a decade of blogging silence, something is stirring within me.
As I sit here in September 2023, I find myself starting on a journey into the world of AI and GenAI. This is a new venture for me, but one that I’m excited about and looking forward to. This blog will be a window where I share some of my discoveries and insights with you.
Why the change? I recently shared about my career shift on LinkedIn.
You can find my old blog at https://weblogs.asp.net/owscott. While it has gathered some dust over the years, it’s where I previously focused on IIS, URL Rewrite, and hosting topics.
Allow me to introduce myself:
I’ve been in the tech field for over 25 years, fully enjoying many areas of technology, spending a decade in the web hosting space, the technical part of the internet that many people aren’t aware is there. After that, I spent another decade in software delivery, building Ecommerce solutions for B2B and B2C clients that were integrated with various ERPs.
Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of assuming leadership roles such as Director of Technology and CTO, while keeping my hands in the technical day-to-day. I love both the business and technology side.
Here are some of the technologies that have been top of mind for me:
- DevOps and CI/CD
- Programming, with a focus on ASP.NET/C#
- PowerShell development
- Automation
- Dynamicweb CMS and Ecommerce platform
- ERPs primarily with the Microsoft Dynamics stack
- Microsoft Azure
- Microsoft SQL Server
- IIS, hosting, and webfarms
- URL Rewrite
Over the cource of my journey, I’ve been honored with the Microsoft MVP award for 12 years, in either IIS and ASP.NET, depending on the year. I’ve also co-authorized two books on IIS (IIS7 and IIS8) and created a Pluralsight course on URL Rewrite.
Over the past decade, I was fully immersed in my role as CTO, which led me to step back from spending time in public forums, social media and blogging. Sharing my thoughts and experiences publicly has never come naturally to me, and for a while, my other work seemed a good excuse to step back publicly. However, I realize the value in it, both for personal growth and for the benefit it brings to others. So I’m taking a step back into the realm of online engagement to see where this adventure leads.
I’m looking forward to this deep dive into AI, and I hope that I can share some of my findings which will benefit you too.
